* this is a poem from a friend, a minister, an activist, a poet, a father, and a sensible man w whom i did 36 of 38 ‘poetry’ sessions together. My other accolades such s swimming but not writing, i had to leave from conversations but J.P. Sartre, Alan Watts, Noam Chomsky, Charles Bukowski and a host of beers, wines and driving like a maniacal cReatuRe of LOS basins, we did not share the usurpable. No, as we did lots of that, too!

That rev-Paul was a splendid speakor, head of the group w whom being displeased was okay inside but not outside, in Evergreen WA…my protests and his radio-Satation: anti-Vietname invasion by US-miltary hassle me on a rummaging rage in finding which people we are persons of peace. The VCL news was as hard to get w anti-NucleaRists as w anti-War persons. Wow.

He was wRting a book concerning the vampidness of our society, but we partook to post articles on http://www.icujp.org/

You are missed rev-Paul Sawyer…

Russians sent out Aleuts in kayaks
for sea otters worth $150 dollars a pelt
thousands caught sent back to asia
Farming potatoes this marine terrace
edge of Pacific Plate
food sent north to the colony
at Sitka dying of scurvy
the last Fort Ross Commandante Rotchoff
his wife Helena Gargarin
played Mozart on piano
inside the walls moonlit fog
sweeping the night waves crashing below
the cliffs Chief Solano from Sonoma
fell in love captured Helena
to some isolated place
the outcome in doubt
for days beautiful Helena
Mt. St. Helena still stands broad
Across the Mayacmas Mountains 1842
The Russians sold Ft. Ross
for 30,000 dollars
to John Sutter of New Helvetia
the Sacramento-American River
Junction
1846
The Bear Republic at Sonoma Marion Vallejo
and some Yankees newly arrived this isle of Amazons
1848
gold at Sutter’s Mill
we 49’ers come to seek out fortune
out Helena returned.
the streets of this city hum with activity
just before the University starts with a flurry.

all open the dawning of new day
these streets where skirmishes of rebellion
long hairs flushed with courage
longing for another daily round
then this one
leave us finally isolated
going about our little hustles
detached from each other
Oh in the 60’s what energies threw us
Into the streets arguing this and that future
organizing this rally
gathering that energy
now all is listless a cross-current
of empty hope
with sullen despair friends blasted
by too much drink and smoke
gather to tell stories
of another time than this one
all running down
dreams busted too wasted to remember
Oh it all goes on the students fresh skinned hair blowing clothed straight from the store
have careers in their eyes driving around
in high school graduation sports cars
still believe the American dream
parents alcoholic
tied down to mortgages press them forward
the beautiful offspring of America
the non-future beckons
Oh for a house in the country
an MG and thee
Jellies and pills between the flesh
still-born era of commodity leisure
we watch T.V. waiting for the news of some event to awaken us.

these hills and valleys covered with
ocean only 15 million years ago
sediments laid down
fossils of shells and fish
the great age of reptiles expired
120 million years ago was it an Ice Age
of cold dry climate?
eating up their eggs?
what closed down on those
centuries of
Mosasaurs and brontosaurus flying pteranodons
gargantuan monsters on the land in the air and sea
constant changes
over eons
before the first humans arrived from Asia only 50,000 years ago A continent of virgin beauty
As the ice melts
the Rockies
southward
come over the dry Bering Strait
Here pasture land long grazed by horses Camels mastodons and long horned bison
long horned bison
In the hills sabre-toothed
tiger grizzily bear lurk
far side of
Indians made their way
chasing animal herds
ready to tear limb from limb.

The first tribes face wildness
warm California nights they settle in
for a long stay
–around the Bay
feeding on clams mussels salmon oysters
ground acorns and Indian paddles dip
the water
We come forth from the gReeks
and Mediterranean Sea
We Baltic North Sea Vikings take
the history of the humans meets
the Indians coming East
where one continental plate overrides another
extruding hot Sierran granit
e shearing off sedimentary layers tilted
upward in the crush
the new earthforms
our psyches
off the high seas
from the ends of the earth to here.

heal me sun
son in the afternoon
we are in dreamland
Debussy’s melodies come floating down
thru farting motorcycle sounds
tumbling and falling away
night time I make my rounds
healer and healed
lover and beloved
swaying in this sweet rocking world.

: we were always wirking on some tasks worthy of Existentialist life-styles; as we would find words to catch-all our space-time in a Universal quandary to new-Rome’s empire; a + b querulous spates we intoned, entombed, ameliorated from the last vestige on passage of our continuum; of neurotic insensitivity trying to observe the known universe; or public or not-so-ordinary diplomacy; leaking they may as well not speak anythingy-Bop; like we’re in need of proponents-of-Peace; my how travel were travails; and, he was a brother indeed; we humans upon the insulted by humankind lands; and Ecology-scape for my memory of what all that I’ve transcended and seen; visuality upon this traditionalized-Extent; planet-eRathe.
